The 15th edition of the legendary Magic Wood Clean Up Day kicked off on Friday, August 30, 2024. In the afternoon, a dedicated group of volunteers and the IG Magic Wood gathered at the Bodhi Camping site to take a closer look at the trail system and the work of IG Magic Wood. Together, they successfully completed new sectors and optimized the trail system. Additionally, work was done on the existing main path.
As dusk fell, the event took on a mountain theme: the impressive Ortovox documentary "ALPS TO GO" was screened by the campfire at the open-air cinema. Afterward, the Swiss ska-punk band PATSKATS brought fiery rhythms to the Bodhi Camping site, setting the stage for the night.
On Saturday, August 31, 2024, the action continued, right on time at 10 a.m.: Over 100 volunteers gathered for the annual Magic Wood Clean Up Day. Even the registration process was a highlight, as the weather forecast, for the first time in the event's history, promised no rain – a fantastic start for a day filled with commitment and a sense of community.
The volunteers spread out across various sectors of Magic Wood, working to remove chalk marks from the boulders and pick up the – fortunately minimal, but still bothersome – trash. Cleaning the boulders is of great importance as it slows the natural wear of holds and footholds, helping to preserve Magic Wood and climbing areas worldwide in the long term. A key focus of IG Magic Wood is raising awareness within the climbing community about the importance of treating nature and local residents with respect. A big thank you goes out to all visitors of Magic Wood and Bodhi Camping for their responsible behavior.
By 6 p.m., it was time for a well-earned meal. The salad buffet, regional meats, and a delicious vegan paella quickly found hungry takers. In no time, the grill and buffet were emptied, and the participants enjoyed a meal together in good company. But the evening had more in store: A prize table filled with gifts from our generous sponsors brought smiles to the faces of the hardworking volunteers.
The highlight of the day, as every year, was the big party. DJ duo Rick & Morty got the crowd moving before AunuAina took over the turntables. Even though the night ended earlier than expected, it remains an unforgettable evening.
A special thank you also goes to the participants of Sunday's Fun Charity Bouldering event. The impressive number of participants ensures that IG Magic Wood can continue to invest in greening new sectors and carry on their work. We hope you all had fun and didn't take things too seriously.
The 15th edition of Clean Up Day was once again a great success, and we are already looking forward to next year's event in 2025. A big thank you to all the volunteers and our dedicated team who made this day possible. A special thanks also goes to our generous sponsors, without whom this event wouldn't be what it is.
See you again next year!
